It would be better if Oliver didn't have to go to the pre-school where he has to fit into whatever they have planned whether it is appropriate for him or not

This is what I am finally realizing about the typical school Roo attends twice a week. The one he will no longer be attending in the Fall. He seems to be happy there, but he is not ready for it and really does not "fit in".

It sounds like you got a good deal working there. I am happy for Oliver, you and the rest of the family. The Twinkle Twinkle Little Star in the store was awesome!Mamaroohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15418994345171144928noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17425654.post-1146795229479503822006-05-04T22:13:00.000-04:002006-05-04T22:13:00.000-04:00Kristin: Yes, we feel really fortunate, especially...Kristin: Yes, we feel really fortunate, especially because doing battle with the school district would have really added to the stress of the whole initial process. And I think our Director really does want to create a model. She said she wants autism education in our district to be measured by the gold standard!

Kristina: Oliver's progress reports are sent to the Director every month and we can call an IEP meeting at any time. I've been impressed with how fast they act when something needs to be addressed. In terms of ABA training, they don't really train the school district personnel extensively (mostly, I think, they educate them) -- it is instead hired out to a regional center in our state that trains their own staff. Since we are mostly focusing on PECs at the moment all of the therapists working with Oliver have gone through training in that. Our two main, professional, therapists are ABA certified and the others are mostly university students. But all of this is in the pre-k program. I don't know yet about what happens after that. I'm a little afraid to ask!Christinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09687586555108712164noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17425654.post-1146781108340115252006-05-04T18:18:00.000-04:002006-05-04T18:18:00.000-04:00It sounds like a good arrangement indeed. Who does...It sounds like a good arrangement indeed. Who does the ABA training for the school district? And when do they reevaluate Oliver in regard to him still having a home program or being in school?

Would have loved to hear him belting out "twinkle twinkle"!kristinahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01104388229716638534noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17425654.post-1146770234010645862006-05-04T15:17:00.000-04:002006-05-04T15:17:00.000-04:00I am soooooo happy for your family and Oliver. Fin...I am soooooo happy for your family and Oliver. Finally an advocate within a school district! Also, they follow through! Wow! Maybe Oliver's school district will be an excellent model for other districts. Hope is not all lost when concerning public education and our kids. Thanks for throwing a positve vibe out there in the Autism blogger world!

KristinMom to Mr. Handsomehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03664592848896720811noreply@blogger.com
